What is Kinesio taping?

In the late 1970s, Dr. Kenzo Kase, a Japanese chiropractor, created Kinesio tape. Kase wanted a tape that supported the body but didn’t restrict movement like traditional athletic tapes do.

Kinesio tape was created by Kase using a unique blend of cotton and nylon. You can use your full range of motion because it is made to work with the skin’s elasticity. The medical-grade adhesive of the tape is strong enough to withstand water and remain on for three to five days, even with exercise or showering.

The tape recoils slightly when applied to your body, gently lifting your skin. It is thought that this contributes to the formation of a tiny space between your skin and the tissues beneath it which aid healing.
